WW2 gasmasks for all the family
The threat of a gas attack against the civilian population during the Second World War meant that everybody from adult to young baby was issued with a gas mask appropriate for their age to be carried with them at all times. Hands on History has a range of all the different types of gas mask from this period as well as the uniforms and equipment of the Homeguard, the National Fireservice and the Air Raid Wardens. To compliment our 'Civilians at War' display we have developed a set of templates so that all ages can make their own gas mask and box out of stiff card to take home. With their home-made gas masks our young volunteers can then practice their Air Raid Drill, working our authentic gas rattle and air raid siren.
